QUICK OUTINGS WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF NAGOYA

By motorbike, moderate (must be able to ride on rough dirt roads).
On foot or bicycle : fit enough to walk or bike for an hour or two.
This is very scenic and peaceful area, hard to believe that it could be so close to Batam's busy street life. Those who go prepared to enjoy the birds and the farms and the greenery will get the best from visiting this area.

ON FOOT Walkers can enter the area from diagonally opposite Puri Legenda housing estate. You can walk all the way out to a peninsular. On the walk out, you pass under some high tension power lines, there is a track to the right near these lines which brings you to the much larger "Sungei Tongkan" peninsulars. From there you can walk back out to the Legenda Malaka housing estate. Once you are definately on this peninsular, look for a less used foot track head down to the water's edge - from here to you can cross over some logs to the much larger "Rindu Malam" peninsular. This peninsular's main trail heads straight back to the main highway, but be careful , it passes some houses with packs of aggressive kampung dogs.

BY MOTORBIKE
Get your local guide to negotiate motorbike rental of Rp50,000 for 2 hours, from a Legenda Malaka "ojek" driver. Remind your guide to carefully choose a bike in good condition (i.e. engine has a reliable electric starter, and all components including brakes are working properly, full tank of fuel, tires pumped up. etc.) Because you will be riding off road, a Batam driver's license is not necessary.
Enter from opposite the Legenda Malaka housing (see photo).

There is no bicycle rental service in Batam, but you can buy new 18 speed mountain bikes for only Rp350,000.
