There is a lot to see in this area. Best to travel there by car and if possible, avoid going on Sundays when the Batam crowds descend on the place and bad driving can be spectacular.

The old Vietnam refugee camp on Galang (first turn on your left after crossing Bridge-5) is ideal to explore using a bicycle. Otherwise, be ready to get out of the car many times as you pass through the camp. 100,000 people used this as their temporary home, while they awaited relocation to third countries.

Many Batam locals like to visit Melur Beach, located about 1.5km after Bridge-1. If you want to make friends with the locals, then Melur is the place to be seen, especially on Sundays.

If you want peace and quite on a deserted beach, Sembulang's beach on Rempang is probably the easiest to reach.

The Galang Islands are the final two in the Barelang group. It would be possible to combine a visit to this area with the Sambulang / Dapur Enam but it makes for a day with too much sitting the car and not enough getting and experiencing island life. Galang is worth a day trip to itself. Make a visit to the old Vietnam refugee camp the highlight of the day - spend a good couple of hours walking around. You could make an optional small boat trip to the island opposite the Galang Baru seafood restaurant a second side trip. Try to time this when the tide is high.

The last island, after Bridge-6, is Galang Baru. About 300 mteres before the end of the of road, there is a dirt road to a rough looking seaside seafood restaurant - a nice place for lunch.

You cant miss the turnoff to Melur Beach. It is about a mile after Bridge-5 on the right hand side. If you like crowds on beaches, come here on a Sunday!

If you want a deserted beach, Sembulang on Rempang Island would be a better bet. Turn left where the road meets the sea.
